About the artist
Catherine Joa is a landscape painter based in Northern Canada. She paints the Canadian Shield and boreal forest landscape that surrounds her. Determined to spend the better part of her life close to nature, her work is a constant exploration of our relationship to the land. Catherine received her BFA Honours Degree from the University of Manitoba and has been teaching art in Saskatchewan since 2010. She resides in Denare Beach, Saskatchewan.
“The land is amazing, fundamental and beautiful. To represent the beauty of an island far away from everyone is extremely satisfying to me but I also like to represent the fact that the land is not always perfect and pristine- because our relationship to the land is not perfect.”
